Snake Eyes

Snake Eyes GI Joe Origins, well this could have been more aptly called Storm Shadow Cobra Origins as it felt at times the film's focus was more on him and Snake Eyes was there to help further it along.

There are twists and turns that also made you do a double think of what is going on with Snake Eyes, this isn't what we've seen in the cartoon or the previous films. Now that isn't an issue but it was a shock.  And maybe somewhere in the lore of the comics there is something like this  but I haven't heard it being a GI Joe fan the past 38 years.

The action at first seemed very shaky in the way it was shot and I can agree with what John Campea said on that.  I felt it got better in the rest of the flick.

The story had some sci-fi into it but also made me think of one of the better cartoons story lines.  And I really liked the Cobra/GI Joe stuff thrown in there too.  I liked the Baroness and Scarlett.

I really hope that in the world we are living, they give a green light to a GI Joe flick after this, GI Joe SHOULD work in the world of film we live in and it shocks me that we haven't got a good universal story.  But this was a rough start to it.  It was better though than GI Joe Retaliation.

Black Widow

Last night was my first trip inside a theater (for a new release) in probably a year and a half.  I honestly can't remember the last new release I've seen in a theater.

Since the pandemic I have enjoyed the movies at home.  Yes some flix are better in theater but with 3 kids and treats its cheaper at home.

Being apart of the Cinemark Movie Club I had some free tickets and a no kid night and I thought, I'm going!  And was happy I did.

Black Widow was already a major player in the MCU through all 4 phases.  This movie felt like it should have happened were it was set after Civil War, but at last we got it.   I'm thankful we did!  I had a blast with this one.

It wasn't an origin movie for Natasha per say , but more building character movie for her.  Florence Pugh though, her character of Yelana it is a start.  And for me it was Pugh who really stole the show.  Loved her character of the young "sister" and comments to Natasha.  Great in action too.  The story with the Widows feels a lot like the Prime Series Hanna (which is good too), just with an MCU twist.

I know some have said they didn't like the villains, I didn't mind them.  Actually thought it was kind of cool with the Task Master and his mimicking of all the previous MCU heroes.

The family dynamic with Rachel Weisz and David Harbour is good too.  Would have been cool to see Red Gaurdian vs Captian America at one time.

This film I think helped that it didn't have to be an origin and could get right in to the action sequences and story with out setting up Natasha.  And they built up where they are going next with the end credit.
