2022 Summer Movie Awards

Movies Seen : Sonic 2, Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness, Top Gun Maverick, Jurassic World 3, Lightyear, Thor : Love and Thunder, Hustle, Prey, Secret Headquarters, Elvis

Yet to see : Bullet Train

Best Flick : Top Gun Maverick

Best Dude : Austin Butler – Elvis Presley – Elvis : Tom Hanks - Col Tom Parker - Elvis

Best Dudette : Elizabeth Olson – Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch – Doctor Strange 2 : Olson's 3rd win

Best Scene :  The Illuminati – Doctor Strange 2 : I mean John Krasinski as Reed Richards  from the Fantastic Four and Patrick Stewart back as Charlies Xavier BUT live action 90s X-Men Cartoon.  And you get a little bit of the X-Men tune.

Best Fight : The climax of Top Gun Maverick, all the jet action scenes with the Hornets and then breaking out the Tomcat!  Really built up a lot of tension all along the way.  Some things were foreshadowable but it was all filmed great.

Biggest Dud : Jurassic World 3 - It's better than JW2 but really how many more stories are there like this to tell?  Humans make stupid choices again and let a predator loose.  It was cool to see the 2 cast's interact together.

Anticipated Sequel : Obviously anything in the MCU, with Doctor Strange 3 more Thor or whatever piece of the MCU story this goes too with She Hulk and Wakanda Forever.

Handful of Movies

Mr. Poppers Penguins – A kids flick that I when I saw the previews thought, “really Jim Carrey?” but watching it the kids loved it and it wasn’t as bad as I thought from the previews.  2.5 / 5 Stars

The Rum Diary – I had expectations for this film though I’ve never read the book but what the heck?  It seemed like a bunch of story arcs crammed in to a short movie, I didn’t really care for it.  1.5 / 5 Stars

In Time – Justin Timberlake as an action guy…um I’ll give him a pass.  The concept is interesting too, but I still don’t get how our arms become cyborgish and we transfer time by a hand shake.  2 / 5 Stars

Happy Feet Two – Really did this sequel have to be made?  This sequel felt forced too, and a money grab with the kids.  The first one was a really good flick.  This one I don’t think does the first one justice, and please don’t make a 3rd one.  That being said…the kids like it.  1 / 5 Stars

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – Gary Oldman did really good and I can see why he was nominated but I’m still trying to figure it out.  It was slow at times and sometimes hard to follow.  It seemed like there were multiple times of silence too which when watching at night can make one sleepy.  I may have to watch it again.  2 / 5 Stars

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close – Really good and sad flick.  Shows a kid suffering to understand why his dad was taken away from him during the 9/11 attacks.  The kid should have been nominated for some awards he was really good in this as the movie focused a lot on him and less Bullock or Hanks.  In the end its good to finally see him smile.  3.5 / 5 stars

Angels & Demons

Don't read if you haven't seen the movie.....

I don't think that Angels & Demons was as good as the Da Vinci code. You knew in the end that the good guys were going to find the bomb and save the Vatican. Great swing with Ewan McGregor, thought that was the best part of the story. I thought the Christian History was interesting history though. Tom Hanks still was great. Could have done with out a few scenes, and also thought it could have been wrapped up 20 minutes quicker. I think the Da Vinci code was also better with its twists and how it wrapped up were more a mystery than in Angels & Demons.

Still a good watch though.....3.5 Stars
